 Guided Meditation

Since June 2013, I have been a certified Energy Healing practitioner through Healing in America (www.HealinginAmerica.org). Through my training, I have learned how to lead others in guided meditation. My own meditation practice has improved since going through this course. And when I regularly meditate, I notice the benefits! Clients whom I have worked with in private sessions and in group meditation workshops have also expressed positive results after meditating.

What is meditation?
Meditation is a practice that may be used to relax the body, build energy, develop compassion, or quiet the mind. There are several meditation techniques that can be used.

What are the proven benefits of meditation?
Research has shown that meditation, especially when done regularly, can:

 - relax the body  - boost creativity
 - relieve stress and tension  - enhance quality of sleep
- balance emotions  - increase ability to assimilate new information
 - develop more mental clarity and focus  - feel more loving and peaceful
 - slow down breathing and heart rate  - decrease depression
 - normalize blood pressure  - lower cholesterol
 - improve immune system  - improve memory
 - increase energy

According to Lissa Rankin, M.D., and best-selling author of "Mind Over Medicine: Scientific Proof That You Can Heal Yourself," 90% of doctor visits are the result of stress. And the body's natural self-repair mechanisms only work when the relaxation response is activated.

What is guided meditation?
Guided meditation is one way to meditate. Others find running, painting, cooking, gardening, or other day-to-day activities to be meditative.

In the meditation, the facilitator tells you about a peaceful scene, such as an easy walk on the beach or a stroll through a fall forest.

Or, you may be encouraged to notice and consciously relax various body parts, such as your toes, legs, and all the way to the top of your head. Whether through a nature scene or a body scan, the facilitator often can tailor the meditation to help you achieve a goal, such as relieving a specific pain or illness.

This experience of guided meditation is often enjoyable and effortless for participants. They typically feel a sense of peace and relaxation. For those new to meditation, participating in a guided meditation is often an easy method to start with.

Who meditates?
Meditation is not just for monks and other spiritual practitioners. People of all ages and walks of life meditate: children, adults, doctors, artists, lawyers, athletes, musicians, teachers, and everyone in between!
